Who We Are
We are EVANGELICAL.
We are unashamedly focused on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, God in human flesh. Through the death of Jesus Christ upon the cross, God has rescued us from sin, death, and the power of the devil. He gives us forgiveness, life, and salvation as a completely free gift, without any contribution on our part. We rejoice to be His dear children who receive His dear gifts week in and week out.
We are CATHOLIC.
In the very truest sense of the word, to be "catholic" means to confess that which is universal...that which has been proclaimed throughout the life of the Church on earth. We desire to be faithful to the words of Christ and to confess that which His disciples first proclaimed. Nothing about our faith is new. It is the Word that has been passed down to us for centuries.
We are LITURGICAL.
Our worship joins us to the Church throughout all times and all places. Our Sunday service is referred to as the "Divine Service." We believe that God invites us into His holy presence to receive His gifts, given freely through Jesus Christ our Lord. The liturgy keeps our focus on Christ and His work for us on the cross. We offer the Lord's Supper at every Sunday service, along with special festivals of the Church year.
We are BIBLICAL.
The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the source of our doctrine and life. We believe that the Bible is inerrant and inspired by the Holy Spirit and, in the words of 2 Timothy 3:15, are "able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." Our preaching is biblical and we encourage our members to be diligent in study of the Bible and to take advantage of one of our many opportunities for Bible study.
We are CONFESSIONAL.
Our congregation holds to the confessional writings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as they are presented in the 1580 Book of Concord. Our confessions do not replace the Holy Scriptures. They simply express with clarity what exactly we believe as a congregation. The most basic of these documents is Martin Luther's Small Catechism. This short writing is the basis for our instruction in the Christian faith. Every member of Our Redeemer has pledged themselves to the teachings of the Small Catechism because they are Biblical truth. You don't ever have to question what we're about or what we believe. We confess it boldly and proudly.
We are MISSIONAL.
Jesus said to His disciples, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20a, ESV) We take this mandate seriously and desire to reach out to our community, our country, and all creation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We support numerous missions at all different levels, but believe that the mission of the Church starts with every Christian and the neighbor that God puts before him/her in his/her vocation.
